The lighting of the candelabrum serves as a focal point for the Chanukah celebrations. The ceremony on the first night of the holiday includes the recital of three blessings. There are many traditional melodies associated with these blessings; this setting is based on teh traditions of the Jews of Eastern Europe. The late Moyshe Oysher was largely responsible for the popularization of these melodies, whose spirit ranges from solemnity to hilarity.
