V'taheir Libeinu This classic text means "purify our hearts," and is appropriate in a wide variety of settings, Jewish and non-Jewish. The composer, Harry Coopersmith, was an authority on Jewish choral music, and a deft and idiomatic composer. Here, a strong and dignified setting asks God for forgiveness and purification, in order to be ready to hear his word. In a Christian service, it would find an appropriate place as the first anthem, or as a choral piece before the reading of scripture.
